Castle Owen is a professional construction and property consultancy, providing a wide range of project, surveying and architectural services. Founded in 2001, They have an excellent reputation. The company has an impressive roster of clients including both Sheffield universities and have completed projects across the North.
About the Project
This October, Little Fire Digital are delighted to have helped the new Castle Owen website go live. Because their old site had become outdated, it no longer matched the client’s identity, team and aspirations. The site was not mobile friendly and images were small and cramped.
Castle Owen offers an enormous range of services and expertise. Working with the client, we broke this list into four service categories. The company has a strong, progressive social ethos – this now has real prominence in the main menu. Similarly, the site promotes Castle Owen’s commitment to sustainable building.
Technical changes to the website include:
- The new site looks great on a studio monitor.
- Also, the new site is now genuinely mobile friendly.
- We leveraged the underlying WordPress platform to categorise and display the large number of projects
- We made judicious use of plugins and implemented on-server optimisation and cloud-based caching. We made extensive use of the next-generation WEBP image format. Despite sporting many large images, the website runs exceptionally fast and will serve them well for SEO purposes.
- As is standard for any Little Fire Digital site, it’s all set up with Google Analytics and monitored with Google Search Console.
As we built this site, it was a tricky balance. We had to make best use of restrictive mobile screen estate whilst allowing the expansive images to be seen at their best. We reviewed every post and every masthead image – adjusting each manually.
All told, it has been a genuine pleasure to work for a firm design ethos and an exacting eye for design. We have enjoyed working with the company‘s library of exceptional images. We hope we have built them something of which they can feel proud.
